August 15, 2013, started out as a beautiful day but that soon ended when I heard the words from my doctor, ”you have stage ii breast cancer”
At that time and for some reason, I stopped listening to the doctor and started thinking
“I am going to die” “why was this happening to me?” If I survive, how would I survive? What was I going to do?
Although my diagnosis was considered an early detection and I received a lumpectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation, my mind was still bombarded with questions. the treatments brought on new anxieties and worries mentally, emotionally, and financially. after talking to an employee at a government agency, I was reminded that local advocacy groups received funding to help such ones as myself. I just needed to find out who they were and apply with them.
So, after many tears and prayers, I researched the foundations, charities, and advocacy organizations providing various support to cancer victims and survivors. my research not only opened my mind and heart to this brand new world, but it also helped me to clearly see there was a need to help navigate new ones like myself on this journey.
This void empowered me to establish the “Our Pink Hearts” organization.
“Our Pink Hearts” believes in providing direct support to victims and families of breast cancer through networking, personal empowerment, advocacy education, collaborative marketing, and survivor-2-survivor support groups.
Remember, 1 out of 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer throughout the course of their lifetime, and 1 in 833 men will be at risk of developing breast cancer.
We at “Our Pink Hearts” are motivated to be a positive transformative force for victims and survivors of breast cancer.
As a victim and continued survivor of breast cancer, I invite you to join us in support of this worthy cause. together, we can make a difference!
